Research question

Which pore shape spreads load most evenly through a bone scaffold?

What I compared

Three scaffold geometries that differ in pore shape: circular, diamond and square. Each was analysed in Abaqus for how von Mises stress distributes under load.

Result

  • Circular pores gave the most favourable overall stress distribution in the original analysis.
  • Diamond pores dissipated stress better but showed localised stress at their corners.
  • Square pores had the most uneven distribution, with stress concentrating at the corners.
